A group who has rightfully earned their title as living legends are heating up Silver Legacy Resort Casino during Hot August Nights. Don’t miss your chance to see The O’Jays live in the Grande Exposition Hall on Friday, August 6 at 8 p.m.

TIMELESS! One word says it all. With their place in modern music history secure, The O’Jays have taken Philadelphia soul music to a whole new level. With a body of work that includes over 60 albums, 24 Top Ten smashes and 59 total charted songs, they continue to perform incredibly energetic and dynamic live shows and make a social and political impact on new generations.

This storied trio has added yet another cornerstone to their impressive track record with “Imagination…” their newest album in stores now. After 40+ years making such international hits as “Back Stabbers,” “For The Love Of Money,” “Darlin’ Darlin’ Baby,” “Love Train,” “I Love Music,” “Use Ta Be My Girl”and “Have You Had Your Love Today,” The O’Jays are light years away from easing up on the gas. Their new album demonstrates that, like fine wine, The O’Jays only improve with time.

From kids to parents and grandparents, fans of The O’Jays come from all generations. “This popularity among generations is rare in music today, an exception rather than the rule and that is why The O’Jays are a phenomenon”, says the group’s Management Team of Rosalind R. Ray, Esquire and Andy Gibson, CPA. Ray and Gibson add “The O’Jays are more than legends. They are the architects of music that have proven timeless and priceless”.

The O’Jays are set to heat up the stage during Hot August Nights on Friday, August 6 at 8 p.m. Tickets to see this timeless trio are available at $45, $55 and $75. Country Singing Star Jo Dee Messina Plays One Night at John Ascuaga’s Nugget

Multiple No. 1 hits and a series of popular albums, including some pop cross-over success, has propelled Jo Dee Messina in to the music-scene forefront. See Jo Dee Messina in the Celebrity Showroom, July 30, at John Ascuaga’s Nugget.

Part of country music's late-'90s crop of female crossover stars, Messina's appeal nonetheless remained more with country fans than pop audiences. It seems like it only took a few short years for Messina to rise to the elite ranks of female country artists who headline their own tours. The truth is, however, that Messina has been singing and plugging away since her early teens, determined to be nothing else but a country music star. She sang in musical plays starting at age eight but discovered country music at age 12 and got hooked on the likes of the Judds, Reba McEntire, and Dolly Parton. She soon started performing live, and by 16 she was playing local clubs with a rhythm section made up of her brother and sister. At age 19, she moved to Nashville in search of greater exposure and sang regularly for prize money in local talent competitions. One win led to a regular gig on the radio show Live at Libby's, which in turn caught the interest of producer Byron Gallimore, who helped her assemble a demo tape. Gallimore was also working with the young Tim McGraw around the same time, and Messina befriended him. Backstage at one of his concerts, Messina met an executive from his label, Curb, and jokingly suggested that they needed a redhead. Producer James Stroud, who had just heard Messina's demo, stepped up to vouch for her, and she soon wound up on Curb, with Gallimore and McGraw serving as her producers.

Messina's self-titled debut album was released in 1996 and gave her two Top Ten hits in "Heads Carolina, Tails California" and "You're Not in Kansas Anymore." The album sold well, setting the stage for Messina's star-making sophomore effort, I'm Alright. Released in 1998, it made Messina the first female country artist to score three multiple-week number one hits from the same album: "Bye Bye," "I'm Alright," and "Stand Beside Her." She nearly had a fourth, but "Lesson in Leavin'" stalled at number two. Honored by both the CMA and ACM in 1999, Messina staked out even pop-friendlier territory on her third album, 2000's Burn. It became her first number one album, and the lead single, "That's the Way," her fourth number one single. Two more Top Tens followed in "Burn" and "Downtime," and a fourth single, the Tim McGraw duet "Bring on the Rain," also topped the charts, helping Burn sell over a million copies. Messina followed it with the holiday album A Joyful Noise in late 2002, and just months later, with only three albums to her credit, Curb released a Greatest Hits compilation. In 2005 she released her official follow-up to Burn, called Delicious Surprise, with Unmistakable coming in 2010.

Jo Dee Messina plays one night, July 30, in the Celebrity Showroom at 8 p.m. Tickets are just $50 and are available by calling (800) 648-1177 or (775) 356-3300 or by visiting janugget.com. Dinner and show packages are available.

American Idol Stars Stop by Silver Legacy on National Tour

Two stars of American’s most dynamic TV singing showcase are back in the spotlight, making a stop at Silver Legacy Resort Casino on a new national tour. American Idol Season 2 legends Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard are taking the stage together once again for the “Timeless” tour, coming up on Saturday, July 31 in the Grande Exposition Hall at 8 p.m.

In the seven years since their reality television debut, Aiken and Studdard have come a long way. Aiken recently released his fifth studio album, “Tried and True,” an ensemble of songs from the ‘50s and ‘60s that Aiken grew up listening to ask a child in Raleigh, North Carolina. Studdard released his fourth album, “Love IS” on May 19. The collection of love songs is a mix of both classic hits and original music like the album’s first single, “Together,” which reached Top 15 on the Urban AC charts.

After American Idol, Aiken has gone on to sell more than six million copies of his four albums worldwide: the double-platinum “Measure of A Man,” 2004's platinum holiday CD “Merry Christmas With Love,” 2006's gold-certified “A Thousand Different Ways,” and 2008's “On My Way Here.” All of the albums debuted in the Top 5 on the Billboard chart..

Both Aiken and Studdard have also found their way into musical theatre. In January 2008, Aiken made his Broadway debut in the role of Sir Robin in the Tony Award-winning musical Monty Python's “Spamalot.” Studdard also took to the stage, starring in a 30th anniversary production of the Fats Waller musical, “Ain’t Misbehavin’.”

Studdard also made an immediate impact after his American Idol win. His single “Flying Without Wings” debuted at No. 2 on the Hot 100 while his version of “Superstar” peaked at No. 2 on the R&B chart. In December 2003, his first album, “Soulful,” had advance orders of over a million copies, automatically qualifying for platinum certification. His next album, “I Need An Angel,” topped Billboard’s gospel chart and was the magazine’s No. 1 Gospel Album of the Year. His third album, “The Return,” peaked at No. 8 on The Billboard 200 and No. 2 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. The first single, “Change Me,” spent an impressive eight weeks at No. 1 on the Adult R&B list.

While they may be better known as names on modern pop charts, these two crooners and good friends are using their “Timeless” tour to perform renditions of classic hits of the last five decades. Crowds will be delighted to hear Studdard and Aiken revitalize songs they truly have a passion for singing.

Reserve your tickets to see Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard on stage together again for the “Timeless” tour in Silver Legacy’s Grande Exposition Hall on Saturday, July 31 at 8 p.m. Seats are available from $40, $50 and $65. For more information or to reserve tickets today, log on to www.silverlegacy.com or call the box office at 1-800-MUST-SEE (687-8733) or775-325-7401. It was Jimmy's scene-stealing performance as the lollipop-sucking strip club bouncer in Columbia Pictures' "Go", directed by Doug Liman, that jump started his film career in 1999. In 2001, he starred in a short film, "Velocity Rules," for producer Brett Ratner and director Patty Jenkins ("Monster") which premiered at the 2001 AFI Film Fest as well as the Telluride Film Festival. Music at The Brew Brothers Helps Raise $23,500 for Non-Profits

A recent concert series played inside the Eldorado Hotel Casino has raised more than $23,500 for local non-profit groups. The “Spring Forward by Paying It Forward” campaign, organized by local radio station 100.9 KRZQ, wrapped up its concerts at The Brew Brothers restaurant last week.

For the benefit local bands raised money by playing free concerts at various venues across the Reno-Sparks area and organized different service projects throughout the community. The Brew Brothers restaurant inside the Eldorado dedicated its stage to participating bands each Wednesday night during the three month event. On top of that, 10% of the beer sales from each concert were also donated to the “Spring Forward” campaign.

In all, $23,523 was raised for three area non-profit organizations—the SPCA or Northern Nevada, Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful and The Children’s Cabinet. The bands also helped each with community service projects, such as park clean-ups, volunteering at the SPCA Shelter and painting the Children’s Cabinet drop-in youth center.

Lucky Ladies find Playing at Silver Legacy Pays Off!

The famous “luck be a lady” line is getting literal at Silver Legacy Resort Casino! Over the past few weeks there’s been a major streak of jackpots, with all but one won by women.

Lucky ladies include Candace S. came to Reno from Idaho for a golf tournament, but walked away from Silver Legacy with $15,004 after a big hand playing All Star Poker. Darlene B. from Redmond, Oregon pulled in $13,289 playing Double Lucky 7’s on a casual trip to Reno while Reno-native Alexandria C. played the same game and won a $13,000 jackpot. Kristin B. from Cheyenne, Wyoming won $12,184 thanks to the Cash Wheel and Brenda B. from Avondale, Arizona played for just a half hour to win a cool $10,800 jackpot on a Triple Diamond Strike machine.

Even our latest Harley-Davidson motorcycle winner was a lucky lady. Sharon M. from DeForest, Wisconsin was in town for the USBC Bowling Tournament when she sat down to play the Power Strike progressive penny slots. After only 10 minutes she hit the jackpot, a brand new Harley-Davidson Dyna Low Rider bike.

California girls are cashing in at Silver Legacy, too. Candace F. from Bethel Island won big on a penny Playboy machine then decided to take an extra week off work to enjoy her $10,188 jackpot. Betty O. from Lincoln found herself some cash playing Triple Diamonds, winning a jackpot of $10,800 on her weekend gambling trip. Nada T. from Stockton also took advantage of ladies luck on a Double Lucky machine, winning $11,540 she says will help pay off her car.

That doesn’t mean the guys aren’t getting lucky, too. Keith C. of Meridian, Idaho took home the biggest jackpot of the bunch. A video poker game helped Keith pull in $20,000. “I love this place!” Keith said after cashing out on a royal flush. He collected his winnings to take home and said he’d use the cash to help pay off his boat.

With the hottest new games and some of the loosest slots in town, Silver Legacy is fired up for summer! Don’t forget to play The Mansion, where guests win prizes up to four times a day guaranteed!
